Departure Time: 09:00 A.M.

Academic life in the International Ph.D. Program in Biomedical Engineering (IPME) is a rigorous journey of innovation and discovery. However, we believe that understanding the cultural fabric of where we live is just as important as our work in the lab. Today, our international students stepped away from their research to immerse themselves in thousands of years of history.

A Journey Through Time

The day began early as our group gathered outside the iconic National Palace Museum. Under a clear blue sky, students from diverse backgrounds stood together in front of the museum’s grand architecture, ready to explore one of the world's most significant collections of ancient Chinese artifacts.

Guided Cultural Immersion

To ensure our students gained a deep understanding of the exhibits, we arranged for a professional English-speaking tour guide. The guide provided fascinating insights into:

The intricate craftsmanship of ancient bronze vessels and jade carvings.

The historical evolution of Chinese calligraphy and painting.

The stories behind famous treasures like the "Jadeite Cabbage" and the "Meat-Shaped Stone."

Seeing these artifacts up close allowed our Ph.D. candidates to appreciate the intersection of ancient artistry and early "engineering" techniques used thousands of years ago.

Building Connections

Beyond the history, today was about community. Whether posing for a group photo on the museum's grand staircases or holding up our "I Love CBME" signs, the sense of camaraderie was palpable. These outings are vital for our international scholars, helping them feel at home in Taiwan while building lifelong friendships with their peers.

A Peaceful Conclusion

As the sun began to set, the group enjoyed the breathtaking view of the horizon. It was the perfect moment of reflection after a day filled with learning. We returned to the city refreshed, inspired, and ready to bring a new perspective back to our biomedical research.

"Culture is the widening of the mind and of the spirit." > We look forward to our next adventure together!
